The days following a holiday can be prime time for bargain hunters and Thanksgiving is no different. If you are looking for some bargains aside from the usual “Black Friday-Cyber Monday” sort, check out the clearance aisles at your local stores.

Here are some of the things you may find on sale after Thanksgiving.

After Thanksgiving is the perfect time to pick up anything autumnal, as retailers are moving immediately into Christmas mode. Here are a few of the items you may be able to find on sale:

Decor

If you, like me, enjoy decorating your home seasonally, now is the time to pick up your decor for next fall. Look on the clearance aisles for items with an autunm theme.

  • Table cloths
  • Table runners
  • Placemats
  • Cloth napkins
  • Soap dispensers
  • Dishes
  • Servingware
  • Cookware
  • Home decor knick-knacks and art
  • Dishtowels
  • Hand towels
  • Centerpieces

Disposable Goods

I like to keep some paper goods on hand so that in the event of a power outage or an illness, I have fewer dishes to worry about.

  • Paper plates
  • Paper bowls
  • Plastic flatware
  • Paper napkins

Baking Items

  • baking powder
  • baking soda
  • cornmeal
  • flour
  • white sugar
  • brown sugar
  • powdered sugar
  • Bisquik
  • cake/brownie/cookie mixes
  • canned frostings
  • peanut butter

Holiday foods

  • gravy
  • gravy mixes
  • seasoning packets
  • broth
  • cranberry sauce
  • boxed stuffing
  • cornbread mix
  • canned fried onions
  • canned pumpkin
  • pumpkin
  • turkey (The best deals are the week before and the week after Thanksgiving)

Miscellaneous fall items

You might also be able to find some of the following miscellaneous Thanksgiving and autumn-themed items on sale.

  • craft supplies
  • coloring books
  • fake flowers
  • fall garlands
  • anything with pumpkins, apples, turkeys, and autumn leaves
  • fall-scented candles
  • candy in autumnal shapes – turkeys, leaves, pumpkins, etc.

Fall clothing

  • Light jackets
  • Clothing in fall colors like orange, mustard yellow, and brown
  • Flannel shirts
  • Themed clothing

Only shop for these things if it’s within your budget.

I like to remind people of two things.

#1) You can budget for anything you’d like. You don’t have to live a life of deprivation to be frugal.

#2) Don’t shop just to shop. No matter how far something is marked down, it isn’t a good deal if you don’t need it and you haven’t budgeted for it.

I’m not telling you “don’t shop.” I’m just suggesting you be mindful of what you purchase.

What do you like to buy at the post-Thanksgiving sales?

Do you shop after Thanksgiving for anything in particular? What are the best deals that you’ve seen? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

  1. I go for clearance spices sometimes, or things like clearance pancake mix. Later in the year I also buy as many in-shell nuts as I can! They are so great for storage and I’m still working off the ones I bought last year. Great article!
