The Best Podcasts to Help You Save Money

If you try to maximize the benefit you can squeeze out of every minute, you may have found yourself turning to the concept of “stacking.” Not only do you go on a run, you listen to a financial podcast while you’re doing so. If this is where you’re at, and you’re currently looking for the best podcasts to help save you money, then check out our list.

All of the below are highly respected podcasts/financial gurus who will help you to better grasp financial concepts and learn your way around a dollar. Here are our thoughts…

NerdWallet’s Smart Money Podcast

Aside from being the best place on the internet to shop around when you’re first looking at getting a credit card (a touchy issue for a saving money blog, but odds are you have one), NerdWallet also has their own podcast. These are really short little podcasts – running somewhere between 20-30 minutes – but you can easily fit an entire episode in while you ride the bike at the gym.

Each episode is somewhat eclectic as well. You’re not going to be listening to the same old stock set of money-related questions being discussed over and over again. Want to learn about having a 401(k) that’s entirely bitcoin (a concept that fills me with horror)? They’ve an episode for that. Trying to figure out how on earth to save for retirement despite the inflation we’re seeing around us? NerdWallet talks about it. If you’ll remember Chloe’s awesome series on a No-Spend Month, NerdWallet takes a stab at tackling the idea as well.

Overall, it’s a fun, and unique podcast brought to you by a website that I personally enjoy, and I think you’ll enjoy as well.  

The Dave Ramsey Show

No talk on the best financial podcasts out there would be complete without taking a look at The Dave Ramsey Show. I’ve pointed out in the past some of the issues I’ve had with some of his teachings and the personal headaches they caused me, but despite that, the man is still a financial genius.

I’ve read all his books, and you should too. To anybody who is attempting to climb their way out of debt, Dave Ramsey is easily the first resource that I would recommend. I personally find that what he talks about can get somewhat repetitive after you’ve been listening for a while, but if you’ve never heard him at all, you need to hear what it is that he has to say because it could change your life.

The Tim Ferriss Show

This guy is not what you would call “normal.” He comes up with some of the strangest ways to accomplish things and is a huge self-experimenter. And for this, he’s wildly popular. He really came onto the scene after publishing his brick of a book, The Four-Hour Workweek, and has stuck around ever since.

His podcast isn’t entirely about personal finances, but there’s a lot that you can glean about them – particularly from an investing, job, and economic efficiency standpoint – that is well worth your time. Some episodes you may be interested in include his talk on the psychology of money, his $100 challenge concept, and his thoughts on the future of Bitcoin (personally, I think it’s dead).

He’s an eclectic writer/podcaster tackling all kinds of bizarre topics from bizarre angles – many of which I don’t agree with – but he does raise very good points on some issues and has insider knowledge on hacks that will help you to do better with your personal finances you would never have discovered without him as well.

The Mad Fientist

If you’re looking at learning more about how to save money for retirement, how to invest better, or how to spend your time on things that will actually result in increasing dividends as time goes on, then you’re going to want to check out what the Mad Fientist has to say. He’s not as prolific of a podcaster as many others out there, but he’s been around writing for years. (Interesting fact, despite being an American, he was trapped in Scotland for 15 months after 2020 hit.)

He’s the king about writing on tax breaks as well. If you’re looking to learn more about how you can legally save money on your taxes, you’re going to want to see what he has to say.

Financial podcasts that aren’t a dime a dozen

Some podcasts are most certainly better than others. If you don’t want to waste your time sifting through Podbean to find something you’ll actually like, however, I highly recommend you start with the above four. Even if you don’t agree with everything that they have to say (and you won’t), they’ll at least get you thinking about some novel ways to accomplish your financial goals that you never thought of before, and these novel means (take Dave Ramsey’s debt snowball, for instance) can help you to save a lot of money in the long haul.
